First Lady Erdoğan inaugurates the library built by TİKA and the Maarif Foundation’s central office in South Africa

First Lady Emine Erdoğan, accompanying President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during his visit to South Africa, inaugurated the Houghton Muslim Academy’s library built by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) and the Maarif Foundation’s central office in South Africa.

In her speech during the inauguration of the library at the Houghton Muslim Academy, where Turkish courses are also offered and approximately 350 students receive education, First Lady Erdoğan described the library as a gift to future that will further strengthen the South Africa-Turkey friendship.

Youngsters educated at this academy under the guidance of the historical relations dating back to the 19th century will shape the future of the world, First Lady Erdoğan said. Inspecting the library, First Lady Erdoğan gave presents to students.


First Lady Erdoğan also inaugurated the Maarif Foundation’s central office in South Africa. Delivering a brief speech during the inauguration, First Lady Erdoğan described the Maarif Foundation as the product of a clean mind and a pure heart as well as the embodiment of trust.

Also present at the ceremony were Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar and his wife Şule Akar, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and his wife Hülya Çavuşoğlu, Chairman of the Maarif Foundation Birol Akgün, President of the TİKA Serdar Çam, President of the Independent Industrialists’ and Businessmen’s Association (MÜSİAD) Abdurrahman Kaan, President of the Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEİK) Nail Olpak, Chairman of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM) İsmail Gülle and Vice President of Religious Affairs Selim Argun.
