First Lady Erdoğan: “What we have done so far in Africa is the fruit of our human-oriented foreign policy”

Speaking at an iftar with the spouses of ambassadors from African countries, First Lady Erdoğan said: “In our view, Africa and Turkey are two friends that extend hands to one another, wishing for the other as well whatever one of them wishes for itself. What motivates us is to help our friend flourish and to provide support in the areas it needs. What we have done so far in Africa is the fruit of our human-oriented foreign policy.”

First Lady Emine Erdoğan hosted an iftar for the spouses of ambassadors from African countries at the Presidential Complex on the occasion of May 25, Africa Day.

“AFRICA HAS SPECIAL IMPORTANCE FOR TURKEY”

Underlining the special importance Africa carries for Turkey, First Lady Erdoğan noted that the Africa Day serves as a significant tool in implementing projects that consolidate the feelings of friendship between Africa and Turkey.

Recalling that Turkey launched its policy of opening towards Africa in 2005, First Lady Erdoğan stated that public and private sectors as well as the civil society have joined forces in a bid to contribute to the development of Africa in every area. The First Lady went on the say: “In our view, Africa and Turkey are two friends that extend hands to one another, wishing for the other as well whatever one of them wishes for itself. What motivates us is to help our friend flourish and to provide support in the areas it needs. What we have done so far in Africa is the fruit of our human-oriented foreign policy.”

Turkey will continue to lend every kind of support to Africa, first and foremost to African women, First Lady Erdoğan underscored. Describing education as one of main pillars of Turkey’s support to Africa, Mrs. Erdoğan added that Turkey has thus far provided scholarships to nearly 10 thousand African students.
